Stockholm workshop logistics
This page offers transportation advice and venue details for the upcoming Stockholm Workshop. We look forward to welcoming you in August; please reach out to Miriam (miriam@iccinet.org) or Amy (amy@iccinet.org) if you have additional questions or concerns.
TRAVELING FROM airport TO CITY CENTER
The fastest way to travel to central Stockholm is the Arlanda Express train, which runs every 20 minutes, with a total travel time of 19 minutes (taxi will take three times that). In the airport, simply follow the signs to the Arlanda Express. Tickets must be purchased before entering the train. The easiest method is online at https://www.arlandaexpress.com. A round trip will cost SEK600 and may be purchased ahead of time (no need to book a specific train), or you may use credit cards in one of the yellow machines in the airport or on the platform. For those receiving travel support, please save your receipts for reimbursement. The train runs to the north side of Stockholm Central Station.
You can also take the aiport bus, Flybuss, from the airport to the Stockholm Central Station or many other stops. This will take longer but may be more convenient for some hotels: https://www.flygbussarna.se/en. Tickets cost 129 SEK on way or 209 SEK roundtrip. Note also that if two or more are travelling together, each additional ticket is discounted. Taxis/Ubers are more expensive (at least twice the price of the express train) and will take at least 50 minutes to reach the center of town; be sure to use only certified taxis and agree the price before departure.
Venue & Local TRANSPORT
The workshop will take place at Stockholm University, which can be reached using the metro (11 minutes from T-Centralen), bus, or taxi (14 minutes depending on traffic) from the city center. To use the metro, please walk to the main T-Centralen station and take Metro 14 (the red line) four stops to Universitetet. The campus will be to the right as you arrive.
You can purchase metro tickets as you go by directly tapping your contactless debit/credit card at the entrance turnstiles. Otherwise, you can buy single tickets (or a 24-hour or 72-hour travel card, if you plan on frequently traveling by public transit) from ticket agents in the station, customer service shops, or through their app. A single metro ticket (auto purchased by contactless tap-and-go) costs SEK42 and is valid for 75 minutes, allowing you to travel as much as you like until the ticket expires after 75 minutes. The 24-hour travel card costs SEK180 and 72-hours SEK360.
Once you arrive at Stockholm University, signs and conference organizers will be posted near the entrance to DeGeer Hall / Geovetenskapens hus (where the workshop will be held) to help direct participants to the main room and registration check-in desk. Please see the two maps below for the metro route from central Stockholm and then walking directions from Universitetet station to DeGeer Hall.

REGISTRATION
The registration desk will be open starting at 12pm on on Tuesday, August 26 just outside DeGeer Hall. Note that the Tarfala Glacier Station 80th Anniversary celebration and conference will also take place in DeGeer Hall from Monday through 1pm Tuesday. If not already registered for the Tarfala sessions and interested in attending, please reach out to Miriam (miriam@iccient.org) for information.
Research Presentations
The near-final Workshop Program can be found online. You will note that each session has two keynote speakers, followed by a maximum of four science talks of 10 minutes each. Most of these are currently open, by design to allow room for additional presentations from Workshop participants. If you are interested in giving one of these talks, please reach out to either Mengzhu (mengzhu@iccinet.org) or Miriam (miriam@iccinet.org) as soon as possible with the title of your talk; we will populate these on a rolling basis.
Because this Workshop focuses on “policy-relevant” science, the keynote speakers will set the tone by designing their talks for a non-scientist, more “policy maker” audience. As a result, we encourage all speakers to try to meet this goal during their own research talks! Some break-out sessions will also focus on building these skills, for early career researchers especially.
Posters
All are welcome to bring posters that will be displayed throughout the Workshop, in particular but not limited to those who will not be giving oral presentations, and more than one poster is fine. Posters may be set up early, beginning at 10am on Tuesday in the lobby outside DeGeer Hall, especially for those wishing to highlight their research to the Tarfala Conference participants; otherwise anytime Tuesday afternoon. We will also schedule a dedicated poster session during one of the longer coffee breaks. If wishing to bring a poster, please contact Miriam (miriam@iccinet.org) so we can ensure sufficient poster board is available. Posters may be in any format (landscape or portrait) and size.
Coffees/Tea and Lunch
We are pleased to confirm that the conference is free of charge, including morning and afternoon coffee/tea/pastries/fruit, and lunch. However, donations of SEK200 (about €15) to help defray some of the costs would be most appreciated; there will be QR codes for PayPal, WeChat and Swish will be available.
Conference Dinner
The conference dinner will take place at 19:30 on Wednesday, August 27 at the “new” Stockholm University Faculty Club, Proviant Albano, about a 20-minute walk from the Workshop venue. A separate email will go out shortly to those who indicated an interest in attending; cost for the dinner will be around SEK500.
Accommodation
Speakers and guests with supported accommodation will receive their confirmed reservations directly.
For those arranging their own lodging, if you still require assistance obtaining accommodation, please reach out to Miriam (miriam@iccient.org) or Pam (pam@iccinet.org) for suggestions and assistance. We are holding a few hostel-like double and triple rooms for last-minute accommodation needs; booking.com also may offer some good last-minute hotel rooms. Easiest access to the University is from slightly north of town, for example in Solna, or anywhere on the red subway line 14 (with direct connection to the Universitetet subway stop).
