Stockholm workshop logistics

This page offers transportation advice and venue details for the upcoming Stockholm Workshop. We look forward to welcoming you in August; please reach out to Miriam (miriam@iccinet.org) or Amy (amy@iccinet.org) if you have additional questions or concerns.

Transportation from airport

The fastest way to travel to central Stockholm is the Arlanda Express train, which runs every 20 minutes, with a total travel time of 19 minutes (taxi will take three times that). In the airport, simply follow the signs to the Arlanda Express. Tickets must be purchased before entering the train. The easiest method is online at https://www.arlandaexpress.com. A round trip will cost SEK600 and may be purchased ahead of time (no need to book a specific train), or you may use credit cards in one of the yellow machines in the airport or on the platform. For those receiving travel support, please save your receipts for reimbursement.

The train runs to the north side of Stockholm Central Station. It is under 20 minutes walking distance to several nearby hotels, some of which are listed below:

  • Thon Kungsbron (4-5 minutes) — Take the elevator/escalator to street level and cross over the train tracks.
  • Best Western & Hotel 850 meters (11 minutes), Rex Hotel 1.2 km (18 minutes) — Exit to the left rather than continuing into the main station; with heavy luggage or inclement weather, this is also the location of a taxi stand.

A list of moderately priced hotels and hostels will be coming soon; the workshop will also seek some block hotel reservations. If you would like to request travel support to help cover the cost of your flights and hotel, please check that box in the registration form.

Venue

The workshop will take place at Stockholm University, which can be reached using the metro (11 minutes from T-Centralen) or taxi (14 minutes depending on traffic) from the city center. To use the metro, please walk to the main T-Centralen station and take Metro 14 (the red line) four stops to Universitetet. The campus will be to the right as you arrive.

You can purchase metro tickets as you go by directly tapping your contactless debit/credit card at the entrance turnstiles. Otherwise, you can buy single tickets (or a 24-hour or 72-hour travel card, if you plan on frequently traveling by public transit) from ticket agents in the station, customer service shops, or through their app. A single metro ticket (auto purchased by contactless tap-and-go) costs SEK42 and is valid for 75 minutes, allowing you to travel as much as you like until the ticket expires after 75 minutes. The 24-hour travel card costs SEK180 and 72-hours SEK360.

Once you arrive at Stockholm University, signs and conference organizers will be posted near the entrance to DeGeer Hall (where the workshop will be held) to help direct participants to the main room and registration check-in desk. Please see the two maps below for the metro route from central Stockholm and then walking directions from Universitetet station to DeGeer Hall.
